Withdrawal Symptoms When You Quit Smoking

There always seems to be a significant amount of rumors and propaganda amongst smokers about how much the nicotine withdrawal symptoms will affect your body after quitting smoking. A lot of the effects on your body are affected by the attitude that you take towards the process. For most people, it generally takes two to three days for the nicotine level in your body to drop noticeably below the maintenance level maintained in your body. During that first 48 to 72 hours, you will have the most severe nicotine withdrawal symptoms. The largest thing to remember in this timeframe is that your body is trying to heal itself, and the symptoms will eventually abate.

You will experience significant cravings for a cigarette in the first two to three days after quitting smoking. Your cravings will lessen as you hit day number 4 and 5 of being off of cigarettes, but you may have random periods where you experience bad cravings later. Soon after you quit smoking, you will find yourself coughing a great deal more than before you quit. When you smoke, you actually don’t sleep as well and it takes longer for your body to feel rejuvenated. After you quit, your body will need less sleep than before, but you could mistake this for not being able to sleep. You will have more energy and should be able to accomplish more tasks during the day.

Some people that stop smoking will experience minor sores, blistering, and inflammation of their mouth. This is just a sign of your mouth healing from being damaged by cigarette smoke over the years. If you fall in this case, the effects will wear off after a few days.

After you stop smoking, your body takes in a significantly greater amount of oxygen than it has before. As a result, you might feel dizzy at times from not being used to the additional O2! These spells will only last a short bit and should cease happening after about five days.

When the nicotine level in your body decreases, your body responds by having increased tension. This can result in making your irritable. Finding things to do instead of smoking, will help mitigate the irritability effects while you work on staying off of cigarettes.

Stop Smoking Withdrawal Symptoms – Lack of Concentration

Many former smokers find that they start losing concentration after quitting cigarettes. This may also be combined with being irritable, sleelessness, etc. After a few days, you should stop seeing this effect.
